[3D-4CH] MODULE 5: VISUALISATION AND XR

The courses within Module 5 are currently under development.

About:

This module is dedicated to the visualisation, creation, improvement and distribution of 3D content for interactive, immersive and virtual environments. It focuses on the pipeline from raw 3D data to final visual and narrative-driven outputs whilst being focused on fitness-for-purpose, accessibility and reusability.

Topics discussed include:

  • 3D modelling and texturing
  • Visual enhancement
  • Purpose-driven 3D data export
  • XR and virtual environments
  • Storytelling.

Learning outcomes:

Depending on background and engagement level, learners will be able to:

Know how to:

  • Explain core principles of 3D data visualisation and visual enhancement for CH
  • Identify purpose-based best practices for modelling, texturing and optimisation of 3D data
  • Follow workflows for exporting and disseminating 3D content across platforms

Understand:

  • The value of visual enhancement and optimisation of 3D data in CH
  • Modelling/texturing approaches according to quality, performance and interoperability
  • Purpose-based 3D content qualities and formats
  • The concepts of storytelling, composition, and interaction design in CH

Can:

  • Apply visual enhancement, modelling, and texturing to produce fit-for-purpose 3D assets
  • Contribute to or produce purpose-driven visual outputs (renderings, XR experiences, online platforms, game-engine content, 3D prints, and geospatial visualisations)
  • Apply storytelling, composition, and interaction design in immersive and virtual contexts

Target audience:

  • Cultural heritage professionals and researchers
  • Digital heritage and visualisation specialists
  • 3D practitioners, designers, and XR developers
  • Students and professionals on 3D digitisation, immersive media, and virtual environments

This is not a single course, but a broader module composed of multiple interrelated courses, forming a flexible learning framework.
