From Capture to Publication: 3D-4CH Workshop Advances Hands-On Skills in Brussels

12. 5. 2026 - 12. 5. 2026

On 12 May 2026, the 3D-4CH Project will host a dedicated hands-on workshop on 3D digitisation and data publishing at the Borschette Conference Centre in Brussels.

Designed for members of the Commission Expert Group on the common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage (CEDCHE), the session offers a condensed, practice-oriented training format, building directly on the methodology developed during the 3D-4CH Winter School earlier this year.

From Theory to Practice

Over the course of three intensive hours, participants will explore the full 3D digitisation workflow: from capture to publication.

The workshop combines:

  • A crash course on key digitisation techniques

  • Hands-on training with real datasets and equipment

  • Practical insights into metadata, licensing, and publishing workflows

At the centre of the session is a compelling case study: a Chimù wooden statuette from the Royal Museums of Art and History (KMKG), previously digitised during the Winter School. This ensures continuity while offering participants a real-world, end-to-end example.

What participants will learn

Participants will gain practical knowledge on:

  • Selecting the right 3D digitisation techniques (photogrammetry, Gaussian splatting, structured light scanning)

  • Understanding complete digitisation workflows

  • Applying metadata standards aligned with the European Data Space

  • Using tools such as the Share3D Dashboard for publishing and data management

Expert-led training

The workshop brings together leading experts in the field, including:

  • Marco Medici (INCEPTION, 3D-4CH Project Coordinator)

  • Fulgencio Sanmartin (European Commission – DG CONNECT)

  • Kate Fernie (CARARE)

  • Vangelis Nomikos (TALENT)

Supported by experienced tutors, participants will receive direct guidance throughout the hands-on sessions

Building skills for the European Data Space

This workshop directly contributes to the broader ambition of the European cultural heritage sector: enabling institutions to digitise, manage, and share 3D content at scale.

By combining technical training with practical tools, 3D-4CH continues to support the development of a skilled, connected, and future-ready heritage community.
